The Acme Improvement District has evolved in many ways since 1953, but continues to meet the challenges of its duties. The issues of flood protection and surface water quality continue to be of prime priority and several recent projects have improved the overall condition of the community’s stormwater management. Wellington is currently in the process of developing a second phase of BMP requirements designed to further reduce the concentrations of nutrients in stormwaters discharged from Acme. Combined with the operation of the Wellington Environmental Preserve Wetland/Impoundment project, Wellington anticipates further water quality improvements.
In order to develop a more equitable valuation of resident benefits, detailed assessment calculations that include a variety of district services were produced. The assessment is based on the benefit landowners receive from district services including drainage, neighborhood parks, horse trails, Wellington Environmental Preserve maintenance, roadway projects, and roadway maintenance. These assessments will enable the district to maintain resident services and infrastructure at the current high standards.
Other potential projects could potentially require additional benefits to be assessed. we have recommended those that reflect currently approved or constructed projects at this time. For the future, Acme Improvement District and Wellington are committed to aggressively seeking solutions that benefit residents and protect the environment through effective, responsible water management.
